The Optimal Assessment of Volume Status is Vital in the Early Management of Patients
Inadequate assessment can result in not providing necessary treatment or in the administration of unneeded therapy, both associated with increased mortality. Re-imagine the way you see, experience and interact with your patient. See your patient’s physiologic status and trend analysis with exceptional clarity, which you can effortlessly navigate with a simple to use touchscreen.

In ICU fluid management strategy should be considered and a plan of care implemented in Multi-modal Interdisciplinary Treatment
The impact of a positive fluid balance on morbidity and mortality has well been established and fluid overload has shown to have adverse outcomes in critically ill patients. However, little is known how to monitor fluid status and fluid overload. Until today no methodology has been established for quantification. Even though many patients are significantly fluid overloaded prior to ICU admission.
The assessment of TBW, ICW, ECW, volume Excess and Malnutrition can help guide de-resuscitation in patients not transgressing spontaneously from the Ebb to Flow phase of shock. BioScan
ICU Providing Accurate, Fast & Non-invasive Assessment of Body Composition
BioScan
In ICU the clinical risks and the difficulties of weighing a sedated, intubated patient, often make this difficult for assessment. Oedema, burns and peripheral soft tissue injuries may also affect the accuracy of measurements, which are used to estimate loss of muscle and fat mass. Significant loss of lean body mass can be masked by the development of oedema and/or receipt of large volumes of intravenous fluid (both common in critical care), resulting in no net change in body weight.
Detection of malnutrition is imperative as it has been shown to increase the risk of morbidity and mortality, skeletal muscle & weakness
Unintentional weight loss is indicative of malnutrition and is associated with increased morbidity and mortality. Regardless of nutritional supplementation, patients on intensive care units can lose up to 1 per cent of their total body protein per day, worsening muscle weakness and delaying weaning and rehabilitation.
